Visit Lake George

Image
Good morning!  I'm just back from a lovely week at Lake George, NY.

It was my first time there, and I've got to say it was pretty nice!!  The lake views, the clear water, the tasty eats, and the unique landscape made for a nice little getaway.

Where else do the mountains come right down to the lakeshore?

Many of the hotels and motels have pools you can use, but you can also go ahead and get your vitamin D from one of the small public beaches.  Eric and I spent a bit of time dipping our feet in the lake at the "Million Dollar Beach" (supposedly so-named because it too $1 million in sand to make it), watching dogs frolic in and fear the water's small waves.

If you go, be sure to take asteamboat tourup and down the lake.   They have a variety of tours of varying lengths (one hour to three hours).  We did the "Paradise Bay Cruise" that took us from the southern tip to about halfway up the 32-mile long lake, passing some of the beautiful houses along the …

WIAW: Sedona

Image
Dropping in to post a quick WIAW, documenting eats from my trip last week to Sedona, Arizona!  (Read all about our adventures here)

We didn't have a single bad meal, and I was highly impressed by the gluten-free accommodations everywhere we went!

Picazzo's, a restaurant that is some 90% gluten-free, was outstanding.  We started by sharing the "Heart Healthy Gourmet" salad, which was SO good we got it again the next day to pair with our leftovers for dinner!!

As an entree, I very much enjoyed my mushroomy-goodness rotelli:

Even my gluten-loving compadre enjoyed his buffalo chicken pasta dish!

Brunch at Red Rock Cafewith the locals was quite satisfying.

In the evening, we sampled the local wine: Kokopelli

On our hikes, I sustained my energy by munching on Quest Protein Bars:

Lunch uptown was at Wildflower Bread Company ("making up for the gluten-free dinner"), where I got a delicious Chopped Salad with Salmon!

In town, I also enjoyed a bit of fresh fudge from th…

Gluten-Free Date

If you have a food allergy, preference, or are simply a picky eater, eating out can be a challenge. Whether you're lactose intolerant, vegan, have celiac disease, keep Kosher, or follow a paleo diet, there are tons of ways eaters like and need to alter their orders at restaurants.  You may need a special type of flour, no flour at all, no vegetable oils, no chicken stock, and on and on... Some places happily cater to such customers, while others are less kind.
Amber at Exsoycise has some great tips for avoiding soy and other food allergies while eating out.  Me? I'm just going to share a success storyand some savory and sweet photos of how some places are popping up that cater directly to those with specific allergies or aversions.
(This is also kind of a sorry excuse for a What I Ate Wednesday, because today is Wednesday, but if Wednesday were last spring...)
Back in the spring, my friend Ezra and I had ourselves a gluten-free date in New York City.  I happened to bump into him…
