SPIbelt

HEY WORLD!  For those still subscribed, thanks for sticking around! Am I back? Maybe!!  I've been thinking for a while how much I miss having this space to share the things I learn, try, know, and love, and the community that came with the healthy living blogosphere.

What inspired me back today?  I recently have begun running again after a long haitus, and a friend asked about my mini fanny-pack that so perfectly fits my phone and ID.  I told him it was a Spibelt, and for fun went to find the post here where I'd reviewed it, and realized it was still in draft! Never posted! From 2014! What a shame!

Then, another friend just this evening asked how my blog is doing - she wasn't sure if she'd been missing out on new posts.  Wellll I filled her in, but it was clear: The stars aligned, and it was time to post once (or many more times!) again.

So, here I am, to wish you all a happy July 5th :) and share (at last!!) about the small, light, inexpensive gadget that is my must…

April BirchBox: Unboxing and Review

Image
Good evening!! IT'S FINALLY SO SPRING AND I'M LOVING IT.

It's already May, I know, but I really wanted to share with you how excited I am about finally signing up for BirchBox last month!!

What is BirchBox?  It's an NYC-based company that curates monthly boxes just for you!  For just $10, you get a few small or sample-size beauty/self-care related items to try out, and if you find something you love, you can order directly through BirchBox. They've got a whole store online with occasional sales and holiday/themed collections. Plus, by shopping through them, you get points (read: credit!) back that you can use toward your future monthly boxes. Win-win.

I've wanted to subscribe for a while now.  I've seen others' boxes and admire all the information and video tutorials that BirchBox puts out online and in social media; I've learned a lot from them!  I have a pretty simple daily routine (some blush and maybe mascara usually suffice), so learning how t…

First: WHOA--only a few days left to enter thehealthy recipe book giveaway!  Get delicious recipes to help restore your health.
You may recall that my running stalled the last couple months due to illness (boooo).  I'm finally easing my way back in; I spent much of November walking on the treadmill (cold weather!), doing yoga and Pilates, and even taking a Spinning class or two more recently. It's felt good to get moving again, but I didn't want to dive in head-first.  I did go to one BODYPUMP class, but my back hurt for a week after.  So... not heading back there until maybe later in December. For now, I've been enjoying simple movement, bodyweight work, and cycling--easier on the joints.
Speaking of easy on the joints, let's talk CUSHIONING...

There's a new sneaker on the market, and it is nice.  Unfortunately, I didn't get to try it out myself (still in recovery, anyhow), but Eric did, courtesy of the kind folks at Saucony.

He was elated when his Saucony…

Perform and Recover with Tommie Copper

Image
A year ago, I was running regularly.  When my knee and ankle started to bother me a bit during and after runs, I decided to cut back and eventually ceased altogether.  (The ice-cold, bitter, polar vortex of a winter didn't help, either!)

This summer, as you know, I decided to get back in to running (PRs! Races! Goals!), but I wanted to be smart about it and take care of my legs!

Enter: Compressionwear!  Reps from Tommie Copper generously outfitted me with their Performance Compression Capris and the Recovery Compression Dress Calf Socks.  The former are workout wear to be worn during my sweat session, while the latter are to aid post-workout circulation.

I slipped into the capris and fell in love.  At first wear, they were incredible comfortable and smooth.   I really didn't want to change out of them, even when I was only trying them on!  They're so comfortable, even just for lounging around.  I like that they cover my knees--this, I think, helped stave off any knee p…
