Find a Wine Tour

Image
Going to Napa Valley would be a dream.  I've never been!! (Insert distressed emoji here.)

I figured that, here in NYC, my opportunities for a Napa-like experience would be limited.  Sure, there are wine stores that offer tastings (done that!), but the concrete jungle is otherwise nothing like Napa.
Then, my friend Alyssa signed us up for a "Wine and Music Tour" out in Long Island!

It's made just for Manhattanites: a Hampton Luxury Liner charter bus departs from Midtown and drives wine-lovers to three different wineries on the North Fork of Long Island.  Alyssa and I always have a great time together, plus we both love wine.  The day was topped off by the perfect weather--low 70s and clear skies. Couldn't have asked for anything better!

We met up on the corner, chatted our way through the two-hour ride, and stepped out into the sunshine of North Fork.  We'd spend an hour each at the first two wineries, and two hours at the last.

Plan a Local Holiday Outing

Image
The holiday season is an easy time to put your feet up and relax at home, but there are so many ways you can enjoy your time without a) lying around all day, or b) spending a fortune.

Two weeks ago, Eric and I planned such an outing based on this NYC tour put together by The Huffington Post.  It started at Macy's/Herald Square and worked its way up to the Upper East Side, stopping at impressive holiday shop windows, city holiday displays, and tasty treats along the way.

An outing like this is not only free, but also keeps you on your feet for a few hours as you walk around without even noticing the many steps you're taking!

Another bonus is that you can spend some time outdoors! Getting outside has plenty of benefits, but unfortunately happens too rarely during winter.

To warm up along the way, we stopped at Maison Kayser, as per HuffPo's recommendation to get a croissant and hot chocolate there.  Eric had the croissant and I enjoyed the hot cocoa.

Summer Streets: Run Recap

Image
Holy cow, guess what I did?

WOO!

This past weekend was the final Saturday of 2014's Summer Streets in New York City.  I laced up and made my way to Park Avenue, which was closed off to all car traffic, allowing only people on foot, bike, roller blade, and more.  Last year, I played the day away at the Reebok Fitness Zone rest stop, so I was excited to dedicate this year to the streets.

It was a gorgeous day, and SO many people were out for it!!!!  Way to go, NYC!

My plan was to run down to the bottom, and then find a Citi Bike and bicycle back up.  This was what I'd promised to Alec, with whom I was supposed to bike this Saturday before she found out she'd have to work.  After I confessed that I couldn't recall the last time I was on a bicycle, she dared me to do it!

So that was my intention. Run down, bike up. It started according to plan: I ran down Park Avenue among walkers, runners, cyclists, soaking in the sunshine and feeling thankful for the cooler weather that …
