Drink Lemon Water... Or Not!

Image
For a while this summer, I've been squeezing a little lemon juice into my glass of water.  Historically, I was never a flavored-water person (and still would not say that I am), but the sour lemon taste added an awakening feature to my standard chilled water.  In July's heat, it was very refreshing!

I previously wrote about the importance of hydration and was planning to write about the benefits of drinking lemon water.  After all, it's obviously healthy, right?  There must be many gains to be had by introducing the extra vitamins, right?

When I went to find some sources to back me up, I had a difficult time.  Sure, Googling "lemon water benefits" yields countless results claiming it results in improved digestion, glowing skin, disease prevention, weight loss, and even antibacterial properties.  The problem was, most of the claims were weakly supported, if at all.  Most weakly offered: "It's said that..." or "Some say..."

But ... who says…

Fill your morning water *at night

Recently, I touted the benefits of proper hydration and dared you to drink drink drinkwater.  [See that post here!]
Now, here's my little trick to make sure I start the day off right, every morning.

It's great to start the day with water, but sometimes in the hustle and bustle to get dressed, I forget to run to the kitchen to fill a glass, and by the time I'm in the kitchen it's time to quickly make tea or worse--to head out the door! Fortunately, I've adjusted my nightly routine to better incorporate drinking water into my morning ritual...

Each night before bed, I fill a glass of water and place it on my nightstand.  Then, in the morning, I don't need to remember to hydrate or go to the kitchen to fill up a glass; it's right there!  No thinking required!  Just get up, maybe go wash/brush, come back and bam: there's my water, ready and waiting.

It's the no-effort way to start your day with WATER!
BONUS: If you wake up in the night and need a sip, it&#…

Drink Water

Image
As someone who carries around water with her at all moments of the day, I'm surprised I haven't shared this dare sooner.

Dare you to drink (more) water.  Water is, literally, a primary element of life, and proper hydration is the key to health.  Interestingly, this is one piece of advice that seems to be unanimously agreed upon, no matter what type of health professional you ask.  It's almost too obvious; of course you want to drink water!  Of course it's good for you.  Of course it's pretty much all you need to be drinking.

If you're already a water fiend like I am, then ditch this post and go down your bottle.  If you're not a fan of water, or think you could benefit from drinking more water, read on:

Why? There are plenty of benefits to drinking water:
Hydration. Duh.  Our bodies--which are 60% water--are constantly losing that water, so it's important to replace replace replace!Increased energy. Our cells require water to function, and thus so do we.…

Heed the Heat

Have you entered the giveaway yet?

Today was the summer solstice, and mother nature celebrated with a sudden heat surge.  We saw (and felt) temps in the 90s (which felt far worse with humidity), and tomorrow is predicted to be similar.  What this indicates for the rest of the summer, I don’t know, but this head-first dive into summer heat reminds us that we must be careful when spending time outdoors—ESPECIALLY when working out!

Whether you’re sitting outside to enjoy a meal or you’re out training for a marathon, it’s important to be aware of the sun’s effects on our bodies and how we can prevent it from harming us.So, runners, before you hit the road this week, be sure to get back into the habit of heeding the heat, with these steps:
